Ok. I think I found what you guys need to read. You are both right. Read this months florida sportsman, there is a big article about shallow water grouper fishing in the middle of the magazine. They state that there are fish that live on inshore rock piles/ledges all year long, but in addition they add that there is a large population of grouper that move inshore in the wintertime, november, december, january and then move back offshore when the water temps drop drastically........just relaying info...dont shoot the messenger.....

Exactly, my point, there are no keeper grouper in shallow water until winter time!

well there are some but they are few and far between....the bigger ones move in with the water temp

If'n any of the popcorn-eating spectators look for this to be solved in a sentence or two, you might want to read the 89 page linked document...

I read as much as I could stand of the report.
My synopsis of the report is Gag grouper are territorial.........to a point.
Therefore, my evaluation of grouper is........pppfffttt!!!.
Now, trout on the other hand seem to favor all my holes.

Went trolling around in 25-30 ft yesterday.
No groupas, but we did run into 35" of some of that!
