St. Joe Bay/Cape San Blas help
Here's my situation, we are going to Cape San Blas next week for a little vacation. I have a Bass Tracker alum boat that I could bring down to do a little bay fishing/scalloping on. I've fished the bay a few times on this boat while I owned a place at Howard Creek, which I sold a few months a go. I pretty much know what I can do on it and its limitations. I also have a friend thats offered the use of his 17' Cape Horn CC. Which boat do I bring? I owned a Cobia CC for about 6 years and did enough offshore fishing to feel comfortable with it although I don't know any spots down that way. Will it be worth it to bring the Cape Horn and fish some numbers from the Florida Sportsman map, and also do a liittle scalloping in the bay, maybe anchor up and fish for trout. Or do I bring the bass tracker and trout fish/scallop from it. I'm ok either way but would appreciate everyone's opinion. Thanks.

The Cape Horn would definitely give you access to the bouy line and car bodies (ie. Kings and maybe some snapper). I personally wouldn't sacrafice the additional draft associated with the Cape Horn for that option if I could chase reds, trout and scallops with in my Bass Tracker with lower fuel cost. You'll have a blast in either boat.

I fished over there for 6 days about 2 weeks ago. My vote would be to bring the bass tracker. I planned on fishing trout and reds early then trying the bouy line later in the day. We cought tons of trout some reds and had a 180# tarpon come play one day. I never thought twice about the bouy line or running out of the bay! We had a blast inshore.
Good luck and have fun.

I think you guys may have talked some sense into me. Thats what I had planned all along and my buddy threw the monkey wrench into it just a few days ago. It will be a heckuva lot easier, cheaper and probably more fun when its all said and done. Thanks.
