Fish That Bite?

Guys,
My nephew caught a small reddish fish off a reef this weekend that bit the crap out of me. He pulled this thing in and I was the only one that taking fish off of hooks so I just reached down and grabbed this harmless looking fish and it bent back on itself and bit me. Do any of you know what kind of fish this is? It actually grabbed it's own tail and would not let go.

Small Moray? Tried to do my duty and pick up a coke can in the grass at Keaton while scalloping last year and got bit by a brownish reddish purpleish moray about 4" long. Hurt

Probably a Dogfish. Did it look like it had wings?
