Reel Oil

Post by Ken K »

1. What do you use to oil the bearings in your baitcasting reels?
2. How often do you oil them?
3. Do you clean the bearings with any kind of solvent before you add fresh oil?

3 in 1 machine oil. I oil the bearings every other trip. I clean the bearings with a solvent twice a year. I concur with Capt. Ron. Too much is not better.
What was I supposed to do today?

I lubed the bearings in a Curado this morning with the Yellow Label Rocket Fuel. It really did seem to work better than the 3 in 1 oil I have been using. I seemed to be getting a little more distance and no problems with backlash (you have be trying to get a Curado to backlash anyway).

On the other hand, It may just be my imagination trying to make me feel better about that tiny little $12 bottle of oil.
