Ecky tides?

Post by flatsbroke »

Putting in sat am with the fiancé around the high tide of 2.27 at 10/1030. Will I have any problems should I return to ramp around 330 with a LOW of 1.69???? Not much water movement, huh? I feel like I can put her on a few trout based on what we did last week just sweating the low tide at the mouth being she gets all paranoid after our lil "crash" at St Marks in Oct,haha. If mama has a pleasurable trip, then Todd's gonna have a pleasurable trip! Also.. Any suggestions as what to do at the mouth/tripod to not scrub and avoiding her fussin but if I can creep out,I will.Gonna head east to Hickory Mound. Thanks,Todd Braswell.

Don't know what kind of boat you run, but I wouldn't have any concerns at that tide. just make sure you're between the PVC post marking the end of the bar and the trypod on your way through the mouth. Good luck

Not much water movement but depth in river should not be an issue. Go out at least a mile and then turn east and stay that distance as you move toward HMound. If you come in idle along.
Good Luck!

you'll be fine but like Ralph said go out a little bit i'm not sure if a mile is necessary going out on high tide tho, but stay in the channel and you and the lady along with the boat will be just fine. the low tide isn't too too low you'll be alright as well coming in if you don't cut the corners coming into the mouth come in the river the same way you came out have a safe trip

Flatsbroke, can't tell you the number of days I would have KILLED for a 1.69' low, but guessing in the thousands. Count your blessings on that one!

Just two friendly bits of advice:

1) Asking forgiveness if you're already aware of it, beware the BIG rock just past the no-wake zone leaving the river-shacks stretch. It's near the middle, so going out I veer around it to the right / returning to the left. I prefer waiting to get on plane until after I get around the bend and hit deeper river water. If you gunned it at just the wrong time in just the wrong place at 1.69' might not end pretty. Some rocks around the edges of the landing area too, so don't veer far from the middle of the river when launching/loading (accept apologies if you've been out of Ecky enough to know!)

2) Strongly recommend nautical map study to anyone cruising around the Ecky area... either that or take a canoe out on low tides, to find/chart deeper running paths. Board member Sharkman and I did both those things 10 years ago and have fished it regularly since with, KNOCK ON WOOD, no significant hits (did bump the river-shack area rock once, but grace of God not enough to do damage). Anywho, I run about four identical paths out and over to my favorite hot spots, and the couple of hours studying deeper spots has paid off in lower boating costs AND a few fish when they're seeking deeper honey holes!

going out I stay to the right of the PVC post, left of the trypod. If you look at at a map there is a bar that extends from the river mouth point on the left side (east) of the River.

:-D What time you launching? If we are down we plan to launch around 7:00. You should have no problem coming in anytime in the afternoon(provided you watch out for the aforementioned rocks) Depending on whether the wind has blown the water in(SW) you may can run out without problems. You will have about 1.5' of tide at 8:30am. :-D

Do you even own a boat? Maybe we should confine your posts to the suf fishing section :smt005 That is where most of the live baiting and beer drinking takes place

Better buy a good life preserver Showman. Your partners can't keep you afloat forever.

Not scared; you can't even reach me if my partners quit taking you out in their boats :smt005 :smt005
if you're lucky Gary will teach you how to get to some "his" productive shore holes
