Al Gag's Whip-it Eels

Post by silverking »

Just learned that Kevin's in Tallahassee has expanded its line of Al Gag's Whip-it Eels. They now carry the four-inch eels with 1/8 and 1/4-ounce eel jig heads, the 6-inch with 1/2-ounce heads and the 10-inch version with 2-ounce heads. If you haven't used them yet, give these life-like lures a try. They have eel scent molded into the plastic, a realistic head design and swim like the real slimy thing. Super-sharp Mustad Ultra point hooks. Cobia will absolutely devour them and both trout and reds slurp down the little ones like candy. The ship's store at Shields Marina in St. Marks also carries them if you're at the coast.

What colors seem to be the most effective in your opinion?

I've caught cobia on the olive/pearl (natural eel), the red and lime green.

For the trout and reds pink and the dark green/pepper has worked and I'm sure the new penny and pearl would be good also.

Went by Shields Marina yesterday and they were sold out of Whip it Eels. Long drive from Carrabelle for nothing. I should have called first.
I had gone by Kevins a few weeks ago and they had no jig heads and only a couple of replacement tail.

Sorry for the wasted trip, TD. Guess the eels are selling well. They really do work. Kevin's had just sent me an email saying they'd gotten more in the same day of my original post.

Shields should be getting more in if they haven't already. Forgot to look when I was in there the other day. They re-stock regularly, though. Maybe Carson (Lanark Mart) will pick up the line also to save you some driving time.

You can order them from Al himself. I did and got to talk with him to boot!

Yes, ordering direct from Al is another option and he is a good guy who loves to talk fishing.

I was just trying to promote his dealer network and local businesses. No matter how you buy them, they're great lures.

I understand. When you live 80 miles from the nearest store who handles them, ordering direct makes sense.

Four-inch tail with 1/8-ounce jig head. Or 1/4-ounce if you're fishing slightly deeper.
