If he'd been in a real boat, that wouldn't have happened.

Thanks for sharing. You helped convince me I don't need a yak! :-D

Serves him right for letting a Yorkie named Buffy into the kayak.

I bet I could hook a 12 foot gator in Stoney Bayou by freelining Buffy off a sandbar at low tide.

HEY GARY , YA GOT IT RIGHT, NO PERSON THAT HAS EVER BEEN IN WATERS THAT HAVE GATORS WOULD EVER LET A SMALL DOG ON A KAYAK, OR ANY BOAT FOR THAT MATTER. ONE DAY CARL BROWN AND I WERE HEADIN HOME FROM THE BAY OVER IN THE RESERVE. YOU KNOW WHERE I AM TALKING ABOUT, WHERE THEY HAVE THE NICE COVERED TABLES THAT ARE IN CLOSE TO THE REST ROOMS. THERE WAS A LITTLE OLD WOMAN STANDING ON TOP OF THE TABLE WITH A POODLE IN HER ARMS AND THERE WAS A GATOR ABOUT 5-10 FT. LONG TRYING TO CLIMB UP ON THAT TABLE TO GET THAT POODLE. WE TOOK OUR SMALL BASEBALL BATS AND DROVE THE GATOR OFF BACK INTO THE AJACENT POND. THAT POOR LITTLE WOMAN ALMOST PASSED OUT, WE GOT HER TO LAY DOWN ON THE BENCH FOR A FEW MINUTES AND SEEMED O.K. SHE SAID THAT SHE WAS GOING BACK TO NEW HAMPSHIRE AND WOULD NEVER , EVER, COME TO FLA. AGAIN. PEOPLE, PEOPLE, IF YOU DO NOT KNOW BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN YOU TAKE ANY OF YOUR PETS AROUND AREA'S THAT HAVE GATOR POPULATIONS, THEY WILL EAT THEM.

I hear ya, PA. So many times I've been wadefishing in the St Marks Refuge creeks and seen people start strolling the levees with their pooches...within minutes it's like watching zombies chasing brains, the way the gators hone in on them.

So we are getting one less tourist from New Hampshire. I can live with that.

That reminds me a a 10foot plus gator I had come up right next to me on Jackson one time.
It was two feet off the side of my Yak. Scared the poop out of me!

Carry a gun everywhere and have some situational awareness; this becomes a small problem.

My rule is if one over 7' gets closer than 10' to my kayak he gets 127 grains of warning a foot in front of his nose. If they don't heed the first warning another one will find its way into their little dinosaur brain.

I don't hold checking me out against them because it's in their nature, but if they take it too far we're going to have a fatal disagreement.

That one in the video was pretty sneaky though, normally they just kind of slowly cruise up to you with their head sticking just above the surface.

I agree with you J. They generally come close enough to check you out without being aggressive. I bet she had babies close.

Some people haven't got enough sense to leave the house. Who in the world gets in a yak with a little dog during the spring in gator country. Might as well drag 10 bloody chickens behind the yak and play a recording of a baby gator in distress.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
