Knots-various

Post by onefishtwofish »

Just curious what knots folks use. I am open to new ideas, but just tend to use my favorites a lot.

Braid to 20# Flouro leader, Mono to flouro or thick mono leader - Albright
Braid to mono backing - Double Uni
Braid to hook or CT-Palomar
Mono/Flouro to hook- Palomar
Mono to reel- Arbor
Mono or flouro to plug-don't know the name, but it is a non slip knot- overhand above the lure, feed through eye, overhand back through the loop and cinch down. Not sure where I learned that one but it works well and leaves a loop.

Any I have missed or what do ya'll use different?

Instead of braid to the ct, tie a 6" leader to the braid then clinch knot to the swivel on th ct. This will prevent the braid from wrapping around the wire. Best trick I have learned in a while.
Uni to uni for braid to fluro
Loop knots on all circle hooks, jigheads and all plugs. Clinch knot for swivels. And a spider hitch in the braid if fishing structure.

Palomar for everthing i can make it work for and improved clinch for everthing else. Ofcourse haywire twist for the wire.
I don't know when I'm gonna catch my next fish but I know when I do it's gonna be awesome!

I pretty much only use 3 knots. Improved clinch, palomar and the 5 turn surgeon.

5 (or 6 if you feel like it) turn surgeon is my leader/line knot. I've tested it with multiple line/leader combos and if tied and cinched properly the main line will break before the knot does. Palomar for pretty much any attachment whether it be swivels or to lures. With stiffer mono it's kind of hard to cinch a palomar down tight so I use the IC when that's the case.

Course this is for inshore and freshwater :D You generally need a few more in the arsenal for off shore fishing.

We call the improved clinch a Fisherman's knot. I do use it on occassion-usually tying large mono leader to a hook.

Good tip Salty as that does happen (I don't fish a CT much, I get bored :-? ) I will try it.

Holden, do you get much action on a plug w a palimar knot? Seems like it wouldn't work well on a walk the dog bait

I attach a stainless split ring to the eye of the plug and tie to that, Top Dogs, Spooks and the like walk fine. If I didn't have a split ring I'd probably tie a loop knot instead.

Uni to Uni for Braid to Mono Connections
I do like to finish it with a drop of super glue.

Improved Clinch or clinch with a stopper knot for most everything else.
The clinch is mostly because I've used it forever. My dad taught me to tie that knot +30 Years ago.

Why do ya'll use loop knots on the jig heads? I have always used palomars. Do you think they get better action with them? I will try that for a little while and see if I feel any difference.
