9.9 Evinrude Question
Motor has been working fine until last few trips. After a long run it wants to bog down, like it is flooded. Only does this after it has been running for a while. If you let it sit and fish for a half hour or so, it helps some of the time, but not always. I thought maybe fouled plugs, but new plugs didn't help. I don't know what else would cause this. I looked for any obvious things, but nothing looked out of the ordinary. I'm leaning toward something internal with the carb. Maybe a float or check valve. Any suggestions? May be paying Wavil a visit at Porter on monday.

You might want to check the screen on your fuel pump, if you have a metal fuel tank and do not keep it full , it will collect moisture and this causes rust inside the tank and it is pumped up to the fuel pump and collects on a very fine mesh screen on the fuel pump housing.
looking at the front of the engine the fuel pump is on the left side and usually black plastic of some kind.
Had this happen on a friend of mines kicker, we cleaned the screen and pumped the remaining gas out of the can and came up with almost a cup of rust. We replaced the metal can with a plastic fuel can and no more trouble.

lr, mine too ('85 15hp johnny-rude) was on sputter and bog yesterday after fishing awhile. At first the sputter sounded like water in the gas and then the bog started. It kept trying to "kick in" and every once in a while did - but not for long.
Fortunately, this showed up before the slick top or else we would have been past the stakeline. Limped back to the LH slow...
I'm thinking high speed jets but will certainly check PA's screen idea too.
And it sounds like a good idea to switch out tanks too.

I checked the screen on the fuel filter. Cleaned it with no help. It is a plastic gas can, so I don't think its gonna rust. Could still be a little water in the tank, but on a full tank like sat the water should be on the top. But then again, depending on where the tank's pickup is... that might be it. Gotta have it fixed by wenesday, so headed to see wavil this morning anyways. thanks for the help
Water will always be on the bottom of the tank "if there is any" and with that small of an engine, it would take very little water to make it run as you described. If you have a clear glass or plastic jug that you can pour it into, do so and you can see if there is any water in the tank

I don't know what I was thinking. I know the water would be at the bottom. I'm gonna check the gas first, and then the carb. Wavil said he was backed up abot 2 weeks and everybody else I would take it too is about the same. So, I'm gonna tear into it this evening. Hopefully its something that simple.
You've already had some good advice for folks who should know. Got to just mention one very basic check. If you haven't already ruled it out...make sure your tank is able to breathe ok. If it can't get air then what you describe could result.
"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".
