Fishing buddy Al (king of the catfish) and I dropped the Aquasport in about 6:30. Line was not too bad, although lots of the tarpon boys, all spiffy in their Mavericks, Hewes, and Egrets, were working to get in quick. We decided it was too soon after the cool weather for poons.

We had planned to stick to inshore, so we only took 8 rods. Wind was light all day(NOAA wrong, but on our side this time!), and weather nice, but hot. We netted up some pilchards on the back side of DI, and decided to go to DI Reef, first. We were afraid too many Bayliners would be set up on the pass, along with jetskiis and the like, plus all the other bumpkins you see on Memorial Day Weekend (one guy at the ramp was banging on a frozen steering arm on his Merc., another had the cowling off the Force perched on the Walkthru Bayliner). If you were a ramp ghoul you would have had a laugher of a day.

Set out the pilchards free lined over the spotty bottom reef, with a spare rod to throw a nylure. We stayed pretty busy all morning, with 10 macks (2 to five lbs), numerous blues, blue runners, lady fish out the kazoo, sharks, and a nice gator trout. We had a really nice time, and never moved from the reef. We went in at 1:30 to avoid the crowds and the sea breeze, and did both.
Almost had a stroke from the shock when a Marine Patrol Officer motored up and checked our fish, the first officer I have seen on the water in over two years.

Nice day.

Regards,

EJ
