Rod and Reels?
Bought a new boat!! Need the lowdown on the go to reel n rods for the offshore thing. I always just used the peen senators setups. I am a shimano man for all inshore stuff, but need new offshore setups. Can someone offer up what you are using?
Grouper and snaps being the main target.

I can't help you with off shore stuff.
My experience for in shore rods and reels is to buy the best you can afford. At first start you can't tell a difference but after fishing a few years it is evident which rods and reels are the best, most easiest to use.
Thanks for asking the question for I am in need of good information as well.

Re: Rod and Reels?
Last year I fell in love with the heavy jigging rods. They make conventional and spinning rods. I like spinners personally, you can seat the rod butt under your right armpit, reel with your left hand and hold the rod with your right. Last year I got a shimano trevala. 6.5' med heavy power, med fast action. For 50-100# line, 110-240 g jig weight. It was around $120 I think. I've rigged it with big knocker and fish finder rigs and handled 30" grouper and snapper no problem. I just had Lin order me a extra heavy one to pair with a big stradic. I personally prefer using a big spinner and these rods have more backbone than they appear to have. Super light also. I'm sure the purists may have something to say about doing it this way( as I was teased by some old school fellas I fished with, the teasing stopped when I brought a 30" gag over the gunwale), but it works well for me. Congrats on the new boat, good luck with the tackle shopping.
Catholic girl pray for me, you’re my only hope for heaven

Re: Rod and Reels?
I would still stick w some sort of Shimano. I've not been in the market for a few years, but the rods and reels were getting smaller and lighter weight, example a grouper rod and reel that was the size of a Abu 6500 and a 7' bass rod from the for grip up with the reel seat and butt of a grouper rod...bad arse and light.

Re: Rod and Reels?
The Shimano Tallus rods should do the trick for you. If you want a rod with roller guides the Talavera line from Shimano looks pretty good. I am a huge fan of the Shimano TLD line of reels. They are available in either Lever or Star drag. There is also a two speed model which can come in handy when pulling getting your line in quickly from deep water. Both are very reasonably priced and easy to maintain as well as rugged and dependable.
