I have the HDS 7 GEN-2 on my 238 dlv skiff. I have a problem getting my depths to read accurately. I read somewhere that you have to set the right transducer setting on you setting. How do you know which transducer you have. When i bought the unit it is the one that came with my hds 7. It doesnt have a name or any #'s on it. I can be in 3 ft of water and it'll tell me im in 6 or ect. It looks to be mounted perfectly.
Any suggestions would be helpful!

I have an HDS 5 and other than the "keel" adjustment, which allows you to add or subtract depth to compensate how deep down the transducer is mounted on a boat, i never read anything like you suggested??

The HDS7 transducer is 83/200 both in one unit. The older Lowrances either had a 50 or 200 khz transducer and you had to set them to the transducer you were using.
I assume the HDS7 automatically adjusts which frequency by the depth you are at.

The more I know about something, the more I know that I did not know as much as I thought I knew that I knew.

You might need to tweak the up/down angle of the transducer a little more while the boat is actually in the water. The angle the boat sits on the trailer is usually different than the way the stern sits in the water. You might be shooting up under the boat or out behind it by a little bit.
I don't know if this would make that much difference but I had to do this on an old Bass Tracker I had to get it to read properly while underway.

X2 with Rhettley's thought. My wife just got me the HDS Gen2 12 Touch for my birthday. Just opened it up and fired it up in the house. Things unreal!

Re: Lowarance HDS 7 GEN-2
Just got done doing alot of research on Lowrance/HumminBird/Simrad/Bla-Bla-Bla units for my Pathfinder. Talked to alot of people in the know and they directed me to the website http://www.thehulltruth.com/ and look for your answers in the Marine Electronics Form. Basically and I will put this nicely, the transducer that comes with your NEW Lowrance HDS-7 unit is cheap and crap! Do some research on this subject and you will find out the Airmar B-60 thru hull transducer is the way to go for fishing under 200 feet! Airmar also makes an external mounted transducer (like the one mounted on your bot) also but I do not know the exact name/number! Yep it cost $200.00 but when you compair it to the cost of the real good transducers, it is a drop in the bucket!!
