Go to lure for trout/reds

Post by micci_man »

Not talking plastics. I fish the usual couple top water baits but I'm going to try a couple suspending lures by mirrolure this weekend. I'm also going to fish a prop lure by mirrolure I was given by a guy at work, he swears by. What are yours?

I read an article about his soft bodied floating baits. Some good things were said about them. Expecially on second strikes.

I HAVE BEEN USING THE YOSURI MINNOW, RED HEAD WITH WHITE BODY, BLUE BACK WITH SILVER SIDES, BLUE BACK YELLOW BELLY, AND THE BEST IS THE ELECTRIC CHICKEN, BLUE BACK, YELLOW= PINK- GREEN SIDES. THE ELECTRIC CHICKEN GOT STRIKES ON ABOUT EVERY FOURTH CAST, THIS IS GREAT. THEY HAVE THESE IMATATIONS AT WALLY MART FOR $1.79 AND THEY WORK AS GOOD AS THE REAL THING. I WOULD JUST EMAGINE THAT THE HOOKS WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF USE. I AM GOING TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF MY LINE, THE 6 POUND TEST IS BEING CUT PRETTY REGULARLY, I LOST 4 OF THESE PLUGS YESTERDAY. THE ACADAMY SPORTS ALSO HAVE PLASTIC SHRIMP JUST LIKE THE DOA'S AND LINED UP NEXT TO THE DOA'S, THE IMATATION ARE 3 FOR $1.79 AND THEY LAST JUST AS GOOD AS DO THE DOA.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

It was talking about if the fish doesn't connect on the first strike (with a hard bait) that sometimes they don't hit it again because they feel a hard and not natural bait and with the soft bait it feels more life like and more apt for a second atempt at it. Sales pitch I'm sure but it does make since.

Lots of top water users here like myself it seems. Any suspended favorites? I'll give a report on them after Saturday. That is if I remember how to fish....THis is my first fishing trip this year, salt or fresh :smt012

The prop bait I'm going to use is a pink back/belly and white sides, 4" long. The guy that gave it to me swears by them in Pt St Joe they catch 3 to 1 vs any other bait....We'll see.

For suspending lures I like the Catch 2000 (Mirrolure), and the Twitchin Rap (Rapala). Both produce when the suspend bite is on.

Yesterday a mirrolure 4" split tail lime green grub on a red 1/4 oz jig head was the winner. It beat gulps, live shrimp, topwater and suspended baits. I'll post a report later. We didn't limit out but it was a good trip.
