Still new to Panacea fishing
I’m heading down next week for only my second trip ever to the Panacea area. We will be staying in a place on the bay on the gulf side of the bridge. Since I’ve not yet learned where to fish and when I was hoping for a little advice to point me in the right direction. When we were down in March we caught a few trout just off the bars at the mouth of the bay and managed a couple of reds. Even though the fishing seemed tough in this area for trout and reds I would think it has picked up considerably since then. What trout fishing I’ve done over the years has been on the grass flats around Steinhatchee. How far from the mouth of the Ochlocknee to get into some sea grass (and trout)? Are there any good trout waters within a boats ride of the mouth of the Bay or should I plan on towing my boat elsewhere to put in? I’m not looking for anyone to give up their spots, just looking to get pointed in the right direction to improve our chances for success. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Take a left out of the mouth of the bay and head over in front of Piney Island. I've had pretty good luck over there. Pretty short boat ride to.

Flats from Shell Point to The bay mouth have good grass and hold fish. Lots of sandbars that get very skinny at low tide so watch yourself.
There are plenty of trout in the mouth of the bay around the oyster bars... and back up in the bay. Just takes time to learn it.
I also like the areas out in front of Alligator point and around the point.
