Back in the neighborhood. We were at Dog Island Shoal. I may call it a reef sometimes but that's not what I mean. We did catch bunch of different species and that was fun. That's not a surprise because the diversity is always much higher in late summer into the fall. I didn't get any photo's. I was doing some seagrass trawls yesterday & we found near every species of critter (verts & inverts) that I've ever seen out there, at least all of the slow ones. The flouder are real abundant now.
Tom was right about the bait sized Leather Jacket, Oligoplites saurus. I don't get caught up in what's the "right" common name. I call them yellow tail as well. I do know they'll burn they hell out of you if grab them wrong. I gave up and tore one out of my bait net and somewhere around the operculum (gill plates) they have spines that can deliver a toxin. It only last about 20 minutes but it was evil.

And in official italics no less.

By the way, I appreciate that football doesn't get debated around here but let me just say this, 17 days and counting!
