I was actually fishing at Ecofina on sunday & there were thousands of Blofish floating everywhere from Ecofina River to Rock Island. I'd never seen anything like it before. Has anyone else seen it before?

Why would it only be Blofish?

It makes sense that oxygen depletion is more prevelent near the bottom where the oxygen-sucking bacteria live.
To fish, or not to fish, . . . those are the answers.

No. It will most likely be another month or two. Even the Wakulla is like dark tea. Was at the landing Thursday and one boat was out. It was the FWC.

Was there ever any official word or guess on what caused the fish kill?

Rhettley, guess our area is just too rural for officials to feel an explanation needs to be provided... a SINGLE dead shark was found in the streets of Miami in 2009 and it got WORLD WIDE press attention, as well as a massive police and wildlife investigation. THOUSANDS of fish die here, and... ***crickets chirping***... heck, human remains found here and what information are the police quickly sharing... ***crickets still chirping***. :smt102

Thinking of going out to Econfina this Sunday, weather permitting, and curious whether the water conditions have improved or should I look at launching somewhere else.

Call JR's store at the Aucilla River / US-98. He will give you an up to date report and let you know if anybody is catching anything yet. (850) 584-4595

There was an announcement at last week's NFGFC meeting that the FWC had checked into this fish kill and found it to definitely be an oxygen deprivation problem. (Thanks to Bob for updating us on this).
