St Marks NWR - 08 Dec 2013

Post by Terrier »

Fished the refuge from 7:45 AM - 2:00 PM. Foggy to start, clear with a steady easterly to end. The water is very clear, warm enough for all day wading. Lots of activity with small trout - I was getting them on every cast for a while, especially in the fog with the strong ebb. Most were 14 - 14.9 inches. I kept one at 18" and one at nearly 16" and released a few that were prob. right at 15" but didn't want to get "costanzaed" by shrinkage in the cooler.
Ended up with 21 trout, a couple of ladyfish and two puffers (always fun!). Most of the trout came on olive over tan clousers with a bit of orange bucktail as a highlight. I'm sure other patterns would have worked.

One of the trout had this in it's stomach - If only they made a lure like it!

Awesome photo of the gut... We should start a company and copy those. I bet we could make a boatload!
