3/15-16 St Marks

Post by kenfly »

Well me and buddy from GA when down to shell island for the weekend. Got down there and chunked our crap in the room and headed out on the river bout 6pm.Didn't get the motor warm and was greeted by FWC, nice guys checked our lifevest and we were off. Hit an oyster bar near the mouth and quickly got a keeper followed by a few shorts. Slowed then headed to another bar with a hole that had done good
before. We proceeded to put 4 more in the live well before we had ran out of light. Partner forgot the lights to the boat so I was holding a flashlight on the way in. Great sunset and was excited about Saturday. Sat morning headed out and hit the hole first thing, 1 keeper and few hits, then we decided to run to the rock garden, by this time we are dead low tide and had no water. Was about 8 inches deep there. We saw one nice red that was spooked and decided to head back to river. There is nasty green slim on the bottom of the flats and when the tide is running hard up river it drags it with it making very hard to fish. Head back in to regroup, come back out bout 5, go hit the hole and got 4 more for the cooler. Head back in at dark, then hit riverside for some cold ones and have a faint memory of leaving there:) sun morn blowing like crazy decide let's roll back to town. Fun weekend, 10 nice trout, no reds, no trash, water temp in the river 61-62 and the flats 57-58 guess that's why they were hanging around the river and bars. Biggest trout 23 inch and very fat. Fish all caught on suspending baits and a couple on jigs

Great report! Saw that green slime in the river a couple of weeks ago as well. Hate that stuff!
