St. Marks Sunday 3/23

Post by milto »

Pops and I decided to hit the water yesterday before the rain was expected. We started our day with a thick fog on the way down and was still thick when we got to the lighthouse around 9am. The fog along with the falling tide kept me around the lighthouse to work some of the bars. Started out in the channel and threw the net since I hadn't in a while. Got a couple huge mullet to try as cut bait (probably good eatin for some of you that I wasted) So, we get to the first bar and I thought I would try the ole cut mullet. Let it soak for about 10 minutes and NOTHING! So, rather than wait anymore I grab another rod already rigged up with a MirroLure Soft Dine. First cast and I get hammered! Well, it felt like it anyways, ended up being a small spanish. Next cast, BOOM! another slam. This time a short trout. It wasn't cast after cast but for about 30 minutes I had a pretty consistent bite. That when pops gets the idea and decides to throw on a Paul Brown. Some how he catches a flatty with it. A little bit goes by and he is trying something else, so I picked up his Paul Brown and smack a fatty 17" trout. After that we did some exploring over to the west side and another bar or 2 but didn't see much activity. By that time it was about 11:30 and we had decided to be off the water by noon. So dad decides to go back to bar #1. No more luck then either. Seemed like most of the action was right as soon as the tide started to fall. Oh yea, I did land a huge gar on one of those pieces of cut bait out the back of the boat. Brought home the flatty and trout for dinner!! :)

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
