I know I am reaching hear but I would like to catch some pinkmouth in May in Alligator Point. I cant run very far out because my boat is too small, so I was wondering if any body has some close to shore numbers for a pinkmouth hole. I promise not to bother your grouper (I don't have the tackle for them). Any help is appreciated. I am taking some first timers and pinkys are always fun! (and tasty)
Also, any advice on trout/reds areas? I have always fished the other side of the river towards Mashes Sands and east
Thanks,
Newboy

Re: Pinkmouth at Alligator Point
I don't know how close you are talking, but about 10 years ago we were catching them 3-5 miles south of the Eastern tip of Dog Island. About 35-40 feet of water if my memory is correct.
Trout- Dog Island Reef. Turkey Point Shoals. Inside Lanark Reef.
Reds- Around any oyster bar. Fish the boat docks.

Babb, has you right in the right spot! Plenty of live bottom. Use cut squid on 4/0 circle hooks with 2 ounce lead on bass type rods and bait casters such as 5500. Drop to the bottom reel up slack and lift tip six inches, they fight good.

All of this advice is good, but what size boat are we talking here? There are some boats that should never be taken out on the open gulf. The ocean is NOT a forgiving mistress!
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

17ft Cobia, shes a small boat and I have been out 7-10 miles but that was a little far for my wife's liking. I will try to look for some bottom. I have caught them at Econfina near the bird racks in 10-12 feet of water. Just curious how hard it would be to find them neat Alligator Point. Thank for all advice!

Should be good within sight of land, if you are going solo. I would find someone else to run with if I were going much further.newboy wrote:17ft Cobia, shes a small boat and I have been out 7-10 miles but that was a little far for my wife's liking.
