The past few weeks at the refuge have been typical summer pattern - a few jacks, a few trout, but not much activity. Today was no exception - ended up with a 16" jack on a pink/white clouser and my first mullet on the fly - a 16" mullet took an chartreuse over tan cowen's coyote. It was hooked in the corner of the mouth, not snagged. It must have mistaken the fly for some floating grass in the tidal current. it gave a good account of itself and fought harder than a similar sized trout would have - fight was similar to a redfish.

Pretty cool, I remember a Florida sportsman article a few years ago about fly fishing for mullet in Europe( England I think). They chummed the mullet w oats or something and used a fly that looked like a piece if chum. They said they fought pretty hard.

Neat. I"ve heard about catching Mullet with a fly made from a small ball of green carpet fuzz. May be you're on to something!
