Gentle On My Mind
My opinion is that most of what is released to country radio today is overproduced crap. However, there are some talented young musicians out there in the genre, and I think this cover of Glen Campbell's "Gentle on my Mind" by The Band Perry is a gem.
It doesn't hurt either that Kimberly Perry is smokin' hot!

I've gotten to where I despise the new "pop country" crap that all reminds me Taylor Swift crap. Been listening to the iPod almost exclusively in truck and the older country on XM at home.
Re: Gentle On My Mind
Fine as frog hair!
I had Glen Campbell and Creedance Clearwater as my two favorite 8 track selections for a long long time.

Glenn Campbell also was a studio musician for The Kingston Trio and can be heard clearly on their hit song DESERT PETE.
I understand the dreaded A-disease is really taking its nasty toll on him now and I am sorry…..at the same thankful for all the enjoyment he provided over several decades.
DITTO Mr. MudDucker: I don't have a day without some CCR!

Thats a pleasant listen.
Ahhhh, the old 8tracks, I had to lug a small suitcase around with all my favourites to play in my car, they were definitely not "storage friendly" items.

Re: Gentle On My Mind
Taylor Swift is now a pop diva Superstar! And Hank Williams is spinning in his grave.
Fondly remember watching the Glenn Campbell show on TV. He is a very talented artist who is sadly getting credit in his twilight years. His sessions with the late, great John Hartford were always my favorite.

Re: Gentle On My Mind
Yeah, John Hartford actually is the songwriter of Gentle on my Mind and of course performed it himself as well.
Re: Gentle On My Mind
Let us not forget Mason Williams of CLASSICAL GAS fame who Glen jammed with often.

We're all now showing our age.
Re: Gentle On My Mind
You've been listening to Glen Campbell's playing on waaaaaay more of your favorite records than you realize.
As a member of the "Wrecking Crew", along with Leon Russell, Dr. John, James Burton (Elvis' guitarist), and the incredible Carol Kaye on bass (mother of three played some of the funkiest bass lines ever recorded), and a host of others, they were the cats they called first for sessions. You've heard Glen on commercial jingles, backing Bing Crosby, the Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkle, and (who'd a thunk) the Ramones. Just shows to go ya.

Then there's Bob Ludwig, mastering engineer. After a record is recorded and mixed, it must be mastered to insure it will sound decent playing on any sound system, from a alarm clock radio to giant outdoor pa. There is quite an art to it and Bob is the guy everyone calls to polish recordings. That being said, the majority of hit songs in the last three decades have gone through this man's ears before they reached yours. The man has been taking care of all of us.

My favorite is GC record is Wichita Lineman. Jimmy Webb wrote a perfect song, and Glen was the perfect artist to perform it.
I knew Glen's drummer who was with him through the 80's.
Got to tell ya, their partying stories are appalling. Ozzy was an amateur.
Probably another reason new music really sucks these days.
