Fished the refuge from 7:30 AM to 1:00PM - surprisingly comfortable for most of the morning with a late September feel to the air. I just hoped to catch a fish, since fishing for me has been so slow the last 2 months. Once again, I left the cooler at home figuring that would keep the skunk away. It worked a little - still a slow day, but I managed a 16" redfish on an olive/white clouser around 10:30 when the tide started to ebb. I got cut-off by a spanish and missed a ladyfish but not much else was going on. Toward noon, I switched to a puglisi pinfish pattern on an intermediate line and after a few casts, got a good hit followed by a headshaking fight with some good runs. Ended up with a 24" redfish, which was fun on the 7wt. Nothing after that. The water was clear with lots of mullet and pinfish. I did see lots of ladyfish busting out about 300 yards away. It's been a weird summer for me, with few jacks or ladies caught. Maybe things are starting to change. A few pics:
