Levy Bay Rd. vs. Bottoms Rd. Ramp

Post by CoastalPirate »

Last Sunday I made the mistake of launching from the Ochlockonee Ramp and had to be towed out by a friend due to some new white powder sand mound placed at the end of the ramp. Drifting around Levy Bay I noticed 2 ramps Levy Bay Rd. and Bottoms Rd. I'm planning out heading out to Dickerson Bay and Piney Island next weekend and wanted to know which of the two ramps would be best to put a 17' boat in?

Mashes Sands has a nice ramp as well, just watch the sandbar at the end of the canal.

I use Bottoms a lot with my little boat. It can get pretty skinny and a northerly wind can really blow it out of there. Follow the channel all the way out as there is a bar to the east for a long ways.

In low tide the water just disappears out of Levy Bay/Bottoms Rd. I've hit sandbar and grassbeds in my kayak around there. High tide is of little concern though. but again the water really disappears...

Another alternative is the ramp at Panacea Rock Landing. Great at all water levels and about the same distance to Levy Bay or Bottoms, and it enters the channel going out to the flats at Dickerson Bay. Also parking is not an issue as it is at Levy.

Is there a charge at these landings? I know that Mashes has a cash box.

Thank you guys for the advice. I will look into Rock Landing! Mo Redd last I checked I did not see a money box at Bottom's Rd. I do second Mo Redd's question..Is there a fee to launch at Rock Landing?

If you put in a lot at ramps in Wakulla, you can buy a Pass for $40 and it is good for all ramps maintained by Wakulla county
