St. Marks 9/1

Post by randymullaly »

Got to Jerry's at 6:30 just as the lights were coming on to pick up shrimp. Dropped the boat in the water at the light house right at safe light. Looked like large schools of bait fish right at the ramp and with 1 throw of the 6' cast net, had enough bait to fill the live well. Headed out to the mouth of the East River to the first bar to the left of the entrance to throw top water. Nothing. Made the run to the flats just east of the lighthouse in front of the cell tower and dropped anchor. Opened up the live well and was heartbroken to learn the aerator wasn't working properly. Over half the bait fish were toast. Good news was there were still plenty to get us thru the morning as long as Im adding a bucket of water every now and then. Caught a few nice keeper trout, a couple of small white trout, sail cats, lady fish, shark or two and a lizard fish to close out the morning. Back on the trailer at 10:30 A.M. and on the way home. Fun little morning.

Thanks for the report. If those were small ly 's you netted in the canal, half would have died even if your well was working properly. They aren't hardy, but everything eats them
