Took my cousin in-law from Georgia. Put in at shields this morning at 6:00. Stopped near the river entrance and threw some top water with out any results. Decided to make that glory run to the bird rack for some pin fish and Spanish. My buddy immediately picked up a nice Spanish with a white grub under a CT. Chummed with Walmart brand "special kitty" cat food. I threw a chug bug and had several vicious strikes and two good hook ups, but was unable to land any fish. Caught a bunch of pins and decided to make a run for the SM reef because it was soooooo smoooth. Not a breeze in the air. The reef provided a bunch of cut offs and hangs, and we didn't catch anything. Pulled up anchor and started a run toward Grey Mare in search of clear clean water. There was none to be found. It was a little clearer, but not enough to bring out the gator trouts. My cousin -in -law was fumbling for the landing net and fell on one of his reels and broke it off at the stem.

This was 20 minutes after he broke one of my reels.

Water temps ran from 70-80 degrees. Visibility is just about three feet. The trout are still there, but you have to concentrate your fishing during the major and minor feeding cycles. We caught about 20 shorts and 5-6 keepers. A couple keepers were lost boat side. Although visibility was poor, the lack of wind made up for it. The most productive colors were chartreuse, 4"white grubs with the red tails, and candy-corn. Caught most fish in 4.5 feet of water. Later in the day after the slack tide, I abandoned the CT and just used a grub on a jig and got a bunch of hits, and one of the larger Trout we caught. It was a tough day for fishing, but still worth the trip. My cousin in-law had a great time, and so did I. Total count 4 keeper Trout, 1 Spanish, 20-25 shorts, 1 rock bass, 1 giant lady fish, 1 lizard fish, 1 remora. 2 catfish, 1 sail cat, 15-20 pinfish, and a bunch of cut off's. Boat ran like a champ!
CAUTION before sunrise, there was lots of fog in the on the river and along the coastline, so much so that we lost sight of the lighthouse and the shoreline. It lifted around 9:30 or 10: am.
