Northeast Florida Quail Hunt with the kids

Post by Big Bend Brian »

Last weekend for my son Casey’s 17th birthday I took him and his good friend Harrison out for a quail hunt at Broomsage Quail Plantation in Callahan FL. Casey graciously allowed his sister to come too. Having hunted quail, partridge, woodcock and pheasants with my Brittany as a child I wanted to pass on the joy of watching bird dogs work. It’s a beautiful sight watching a good bird dog! Since we no longer have a dog this is the only way I have to pass this on. It was a treat watching the kids and the dogs working. We had a great morning!

After a nice breakfast at the lodge we hit the fields.

That sounds like a great day too. And certainly a good way to introduce your kids to upland hunting. How long has that outfitter been in Callahan? I hadn't realized there was one up there.

  Kids looked like they enjoyed it. I miss hunting wild quail here in So. Ga. There are so few of them around now, most folks hunt the plantations. There are several nice places up here in Ga.

Looks like great fun. I quail hunted Monday and it sure would have been nice to have a covered wagon like y'all were in. It started to rain pretty good with no top.

My son is coming home for his birthday in two weeks. He wants me to put on a quail hunt for him and now 5 of his closest friends. When he called to add the 5th one, I told him to go take down the sign in front of his house inviting folks to come quail hunt with him! :smt005
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
