Went down to the coast for a little relaxation. The weather report looked awful, but as I headed south I drove out of the rain into a pretty nice afternoon. I did not have a lot of time before dinner, so I decided to put the kayak in. The water clarity was pretty good all things considered. I paddled out to an oyster bar and before long was hooked into my first fish. It was a monster sailcat which was not my target species, but was entertaining on a medium light rod in the kayak. I boated 2 good trout on a jerk shad and then saw the lightning. Set a new personal record on the paddle in from the bar. Changed clothes and had a nice dinner at Spring Creek with my wife. Got up early Saturday and launched the kayak again. Caught 2 shorts on the jerk shad and landed 3 nice ones on a twitch bait. White seemed to be the color of the day. Thought I was going to get my limit, but a pod of dolphins showed up and then I heard thunder again. Off the water to clean up and make breakfast. Had to eat mine cold because just as I sat down I saw my shore rod pegged. Redfish was over 30". Yes she was released unharmed. Good fun when it was safe to fish.
