Econfina Tuesday 3-29

Post by Dubble Trubble »

Cindy and I launched the boat at 9am with a slight breeze at the landing. Went out the river and the further out we got, the windier it got! Headed out to a spot about 2 miles out of the river and started fishing in an almost gale! Stayed there for about 15 minutes and decided to get out of the wind and rough seas. Came back in close to Hickory mound and drifted for a while. They had lockjaw! Decided to head toward Rock Island after the wind died down a bit and Cindy boated a nice Pompano, and I caught a few short trout. But still no keepers.

Moved around several times, and at 5:30, still no keeper trout, just a good many shorts. I moved to one last spot, and it was on! We caught 2 spanish, one being a nice 20 incher, then like magic, within 15 minutes, we got 4 nice fat keeper trout!

Also got to watch 2 N/G copters practicing rescue, with them hovering just a few feet off the water many times. They stirred up quite a cloud of water! When they left for the day, they circled us and waved....

Relearned an old lesson today....KEEP TRYING. I almost had decided to load up at 5, but we stayed out till 7:30pm. Rode in as the sun was getting low on the horizon. We did not see much of it all day.

Water temp was 68-70.

A great day on the water with the wife! (Cindy and I finally got married in December)

We caught them right about 5:45, right at the high tide....not on the up or down. Weird.

6 feet - 2.5 miles from the tripod. That's all you get! :-D
