NOAA does it again...Red Snapper

Post by RCS »

For those not yet aware...earlier today, NOAA announced the dates for the 2017 red snapper season in federal waters. For the private, recreational fisherman, this year's season will be limited to three (3) days, running June 1-4.

3 days of mayhem.

They are going to get somebody killed who went out even though the conditions were bad because "that was the only day they could go".

Government insanity. :hammer:

Cant hardly catch a keeper grouper but lets going ahead and decimate them, meanwhile you cant beat the snapper of the line.
Pure insanity!

I fish out of Carrabelle, and can't hardly catch anything but Red Snapper. Another fisherman said the Snapper are so thick, they are taking over the good bottom and running the Grouper away. Mangrove Snapper season is open, but I might catch one of those for every forty Red Snapper I catch. This doesn't make any sense to me. If NOAA were as protective of the other reef fish as they are of the Red Snapper, I would have to take up golf. :x

I read where most of the commercial Red Snapper harvest is controlled by a few. Do you think they might have some political friends?
