Best location for Kayak Fishing

Probably not. We have discussed kayaks before, but for the record- I like the 14 foot Old Town 2 place, because of the room, and at 68lbs, it doesn't weight much more thans some singles. It handles pretty good the water. Priced right too, at 500-600 bucks.
Although, I haven't had that many long carries (drags?), I do have wheels on a braket to attach for long hauls. They came with one of the other used kayaks I bought, and I laughed at the idea the first time I saw it, but they work.
Actually, some kind of strap arrangement attached to wheels would probably work better. 'Think I might see, if I can come up with something better, when I get back down there.

Before kayaks, I fished an old Sear canoe for a while. And then ,a 15 foot Old Town square back with a 3 horse Yamaha in Apalachee Bay and chased reds at 'the cut' with it. That was a few years ago, when I was only able to make down there a time or two a year. Never could justify the investment in a decent fishing boat for that few of trips and I don't do much fresh water fishing, at least not on lakes, or where a big boat would be needed.
Kayaks are an ideal way to fish on a buget, and a dang lot of fun too.

If I were you I'd try Skipper Bay. (like Chalk mentioned) It is located at the end of Skiper Bay Road on the left 1-2miles before you get to Panacea. It is closer than Alligator point and Mashes sands. The road is low gets wet in one spot during hight tide. I have never seen anyone down there whenever I have visited to collect fiddler crabs. At the end of the road is a sandy area where you can launch and see the bay. I wouldn't try to put my boat in there, but you could easily launch a kayak. You can see piney island from the shore, and the place is out of the way and has very little fishing pressure from local anglers.

I've had the MAN after me about collecting them at Wakulla beach, and at St Marks. He said "This is part of a Wild Life Refuge". So I went somewhere's else.

Hello,
I am not real good with directions so do you think you could tell me how to get there from Tallahassee? It sounds like I will need four wheel drive to get back there. I have a Ford Explorer V8 with all wheel drive. Do you think I could make it back there? Ok sorry to keep asking questions. I have really found this site to be very helpful and have almost found myself addicted to it. lol ok well thanks for the advice.

You need to drive just like you are going to Alligator point or Mashes Sands. Follow the crawfordville highway (SR-319) through Crawforville the road will t-bone into 98 where you will make a right turn. Follow the signs and stay on 98 heading toward Panacea. After you pass the Sopchoppy cut-off (319), start watching the left side of the road for Skipper Bay Road. On the weekends there is usally someone selling Boiled peanuts at the corner of Skipper Bay and 98. If your not carefull you drive right by it because it is in the "middle of nowhere" . If you get to Panacea, turn around and go back up 98 and watch the right side of the road. I missed it the first time I went and had to go back.
Your vehicle should make it to the bay, but there are some large holes toward the very end of the road that look intimidating. I made it down there in my 2WD Toyota without any problems. Might want to take some insect repellant, the flies might be there with you. Be prepared.

Hickory mounds & Skipper Bay are both great places. I've barely done either and I really like the idea. A full day with some others kayaking would be a great Hickory Mounds trip. The season is close for it.

Well now its raining in tally 
so i guess i will have to wait until sinday to go fishing. i think a group is going out on sunday so it should be fun. hey lit where can i get the full image you posted on the other forumm, it was a map of the area. ok well i guess i am going to that addictive fishing show this afternoon, they will be at kevins from 1 till 3

If you have a digital camera the local library has all the topos and you can put together a collection of areas you like.
Since you're not fishing you might as well start the mission studying which kayak to buy.

Here's another site with some good kayak reviews http://www.paddlezone.net. If I had a place to keep my other kayak here in Tallahassee i'd bring it over and let whoever use it to give kayak fishing a try. My 15.5' Bimini already has my living room pretty well maxed out on capacity.
