Fished with ChasenFish out of steinhatchee

Post by doomtrpr_z71 »

Went out grouper fishing with chase Norwood this week on his razor cat out of steinhatchee. The plan was to stay fairly close as the grouper had been in 40-50ft.

We rolled up to our first drop and my fishing buddy was given a rod to flat line a pinfish while they chumed up the grouper and he was immediately smacked hard. After a long and hard fight with him complaining about his back :ROFLMAO:, the fish finally showed itself and it was a rather large amberjack. So the day started with a fair bit of excitement.

After watching grouper bust bait on the surface and several keeper gag and reds in the box we moved to the next spot. Things started to cool off and we moved to a third spot. At this point we were catching shorts or keepers that were close to the minimum size and capt chase decided to make a run to the middle grounds. At this point I got on a bean bag for the 60 mile ride and actually went to sleep. Now granted the seas were supposed to be 2-2.5 and they were calm enough I would have ran my bay boat to 50ft. Well when I was awoken in the middle grounds they were definitely more sporty and were solidly 3ft. But we pulled up to our first spot to fish for beeliners and capt chase said 15mins and we'll have a limit and we did it in 10. Moving a couple of miles we went for red snapper and on my first drop I had a nice fight that turned out to be a very nice gag instead of an ARS. Next drop was a very large ARS, so I was on a roll. We were doing pretty well and keeping the mate busy.

Well after all that fun, the tax man decided to take my nice red grouper and we moved on. The next spot had no sharks and we finished out our limit of ARS. At this point we headed back in with a near 3 hr ride that was a bit sporty and it was a slower ride for 30 or so miles. But when we got shallower it smoothed out nicely and near shore we could really open it up.

Makes me feel better about passing him in the channel a couple years back.

We got back and got them on board, and it was a nice haul but I'm not 20 anymore and the 3 hr drive back after the fish cleaning made for a late night and an early morning as I had to work the next morning

Chase Norwood is a class act for sure and a jam up captain.
