No Redfish or Trout here, but it’s a report…

Post by BloodyChamp »

…like only I can give. I am so mad at how foolish I was today. I swore I’d never go anywhere where there was ever a mullet, ever again, without worms ever since I paddled up on a million mullet in a certain remote canal a few years ago.

I had 1 thing of mullet chum left that had been sitting and I took it today and threw it into the Aucilla just so it wouldn’t waste and for the ride. I usually have to quit fishing around late August because I’m a pecan farmer but I have to pecans this year. I also figured most mullet had went on to the oceans. So I threw the chum out and drove over to the St Marks and Wakulla bridges and there were mullet at both of them, plus big bass and sheepheads :smt013 :smt013 :smt013

Took a shot at the with the little castnet and that didn’t work out so I went back to the Aucilla. I didn’t even plan on going back to check the chum originally but after I saw those other mullet I had to. I got back and there were, and I swear to gosh, atleast 40 ENORMOUS mullet. I thought they were carp they were so big. I happened to have some old bread in the truck and they weren’t interested in it. The only thing left to do was try the castnet. I hit the target but they scattered so fast it was like a cartoon. Poof they were gone and they never came back. If I would have had worms…dang dang dang. I’m going to try Goose Pasture tomorrow where you don’t really need chum instead of buying a whole new bag that might not get used. Plus after I spooked the Aucilla mullet so bad they might not come back the next day. I’d been catching them at Goose all summer. Never really caught a whole bucket full but caught some every time I went except for the first time.
