St. George Island Fishing Pier (Old Bridge)

Post by DuctTapeKing »

I have never fished the old bridge from boat or from the new fishing areas they have opened. Has anyone fished this area? I'm sure the sheephead fishing will be great during the winter months. Is the depth uniform until you get to the channel or are their areas of the bridge that have much deeper water than the others? I just have never heard anyone talking about fishing this area...and I would think it would be very productive if you know what your doing. Which side of the pier would be the best? North/ South???

There have been reports of people fishing from both ends of the old bridge and doing very well.
I haven't seen any specific information about depths though.

DTK - I fished that area back in Oct and had a lot of success around the old bridge on the island side. Fish it on a falling tide. We would anchor on the west side of the bridge and fish the old SOB (shrimp on bottom)around the pilings. Fishing was good all up and down the bridge. We would fish a while and move up or down the bridge. It produced redfish every time. We also caught Sheepshead, flounder, trout, whiting, rock bass, and even a few small grouper. The key was catching the tides right.

Hope this helps
