A Topwater Spanish

Fishing light tackle, a buddy of mine caught this brute Monday on a Chug Bug.
He always upgrades the stock split rings and treble hooks.
Wonder why…

Nice. I've only got into the spanish once where I could consistently make them hit topwater and it was the most fun I've ever had fishing.

Cero? No. They're south and mostly frequent reefs. I've never seen them here but I guess it's possible offshore. On a Cero the lateral lines are straight. On a Spanish the lateral line has a very distinctive break.

That say's something.
On Dog Island Shoal I've found them to be pretty responsive to topwater when it lays down and the water clarity is good.

Ive never caught a cero north of Key Largo. but lots of them in Hawks channel out of Islamorada

Who is that ugly mutha, and I don't mean the fish? I mean the one with the goofy glasses? He sure looks familiar... Way to go guys--I just had my knee surgery on Monday so I am hoping to get back into the fray soon.
