Fishing and Camping at the Econfina 05/16-05/18

Post by Tod »

Needed to take some time from work and talked my dad (retired) and girlfriend to go to the Econfina RV park and fish for three days. The fishing is still great down there. The fishing was better in the afternoon then the morning but most of the boats were gone by then.

Monday: We put in about 3:00 in the afternoon after setting up camp and went to where I have found fish on Saturday, stayed there all afternoon and caught about 70 fish with 11 Keepers, which were important because that was what we were cooking for lunch on Tuesday :lick: .

Tuesday: Put in at 8:00 am and went west in close to see if any fish there, nada, the water was calm in close and no trolling motor meant we had to move. Went back out to the spot we fishing before and found some fish but mostly shorts and not as many as the afternoon before. Fished till 11:00 and went in to cook lunch, trout fillets on the grill. After filling our bellies we had to rest some while the heat was on then went out at 3:00 for the afternoon trip. About the same results as the day before, the bite was better than the morning and we caught fish till we got ready to go. We did catch one cobia in the morning and we think that we had a hookup with a bigger one in the afternoon that broke me off. My dad had the biggest trout of the trip at the side of the boat and I decided to cut his line with the net :o , thought I was going to have to swim back and it was my boat.

Wednesday: Put in at 8:30 after waiting in line for :30 minutes at the store needing more SWA's, fishing was slow but we still managed to catch a few fish. The wind layed down about 10:00 and the bite really went down then. We fished for another hour and went to the hill, packed up and headed home.

We had a great time and the weather could not have been better. We caught about 200 fish including cobia, blue runners, spanish, lots of trout, and wevans favorite catfish.

Sounds like a great trip! Havn't fished down there too much. Tried it once by canoe and have hit a few rocks on a test run in our work boat. Really nice river though.
