Late start, took the NY neighbor cuz he got a pass. Put in at the LH around 0915. S winds <10, 1-3’ past 8’ of depth. Many large schools of bait on the surface past 10’ of depth. Threw some spoons in there, no takers. Water stained. Decided to go to SM1 reef with some LY’s. This was my first attempt at grouper. I now know why they call it digging.
Third attempt at anchoring over the reef was the charm. Bottom machine was really lit up like a Christmas tree. Stayed lit the whole time.Hooked one very large redfish right off the bat with a shrimp. Shrimp produced triggerfish and remoras.
Boated six undersize gag grouper on light tackle and LY’s. 16â€
The more ya go, the more ya learn "and ya never quite learning" sounds like ya'll had a blast, and that's the main thing

20 feet of water in a 17' Key West Sportsman. Seas were just under my "pucker factor". I pucker pretty easy. I could still clearly see the entire coastline.
When you get the bite ( grouper ) you gotta put the wood to em and when sombody rocks up , give em hell ! Call em a pansy, but if you do get rocked let em lay with slack in the line for awhile and usually they will swim you out. ( not that its every happened to me, i've just seen it done )
