TROUT CATCH East Bay PC

Post by Old Dog »

"Cool Man" McMillan joined me on a trout trip yesterday on East Bay at PC. We fished East Bay and had a fairly good day. We got on the water around noon and by 7:00 p.m, when we decided to head for the hill, we had boated 51 trout and put 6 keepers in the ice chest. (fished ranged from 16-19). I stayed with glo lures all afternoon, using the glo DOA, and the glo Norton Bull Minnow, and Mac had his best luck on glo lures as well. I thought the bay was in good shape considering all the tannin colored water flushed out of the swamps and even though the water was dark it seemed not to have affected the fishing to any significant degree.

I recently purchased the Min Kota RipTide (auto pilot-remote control), for my 19-6 Key West and this trip was my first time to test-hop it. I think I'm going to like it. The remote control feature works well (you can use the remote control from anywhere on the boat), and the motor has plenty of thrust (80 pounds), to give the boat headway against wind and current, something my previous 55# thrust motor was unable to do. I also like the auto pilot feature and it's easy to use. You aim the motor-head in a certain direction and its internal magnetic compass will keep the boat headed in that direction until you stop it. The motor also has a detachable foot control should the remote or auto pilot stop working.

Sounds like a fine afternoon, O.D. I've had a Minn Kota Riptide for 3 years now and have been very pleased with its toughness. I've knocked all the paint off of the foot, bent the synthetic shaft into a U shape, and replaced the prop once due to oyster bars in the St. Marks area and its still going strong. Good luck with it.

Not a bad catch a week after a storm.

The Minn Kota is a tough motor. It's even tough enough to stay together on my boat.
What was I supposed to do today?

DON GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO FIND SOME TROUT, DON'T KNOW WHEN I WILL BE ABLE TO GET TO FISH AGAIN. THINGS HAVE TO IMPROVE MORE WITH BABE BEFORE I CAN LEAVE HER FOR A FULL DAY.

I'm glad to hear the Rip Tide is a tough motor. If TC and Birddog have put it through its paces and its still working maybe I'll be happy with mine. Your testimony puts my miserly self a little more at ease. 'Cause I WILL use it. :)

PA when your wife gets better shoot me an email, I've got a bed of them trout located and I'll put you on some that'll put you off them fingerlings at St. Marks. :-D
