Ouch, a federal offense  ....maybe thats why two jets buzzed us out there...........they need to put a sign on the tower or something, but I guess I'm glad to know now/ ignorance is bliss right?........still dont understando the chum in the winter thing.....when I was out there there was a school of giant grey snapper(mangroves) and they didn't turn on until we started the chum........chummed with a mixture of sand and menhayden oil..............Lesser amberjack were swarming on the surface after that and it was hard to get a bait down past them

I thought you meant chumming for other stuff. No you can chum up the mangrove snapper around the towers and probably get some aj's too.

Weatherguy,

How do you mix your chum? Just sand and menhaden oil? Is this the same as sandballing?

Get'nChummy

Never called it anything particular but I guess so....I make up the sand and menhayden oil in a bucket....ball it up and drop it over(use some dish gloves or the wife wont let ya back in the house). I have also on occasion mixed in some 9lives or tuna fish......but that makes me wish I had a cracker to spread it on :lick: Most of the time I just use the oil.....it has always seemed to work equally well. I wouldn't chum right away.....Tom is probably right about chumming with your LY on a hook because the fish may already be in greedy feeding mode........Frozen chum could be a good chum too. If you choose the chum bag just weight it down otherwise your chum will be hitting the bottom way out instead of on the structure below you(depending on tide)........the only problem there has been that I've had sharks or something gobble up the whole bag, scary huh? Dont be surprised if you bring in some disgusting, spine tingling, hair raising sized sharks, they can be the down side to chumming because they will chomp the best 3/4 of your fish on the way up......some guys will cap off a pvc on both ends and drill holes in it, weight it down and send it to the bottom with chum.........that can be a fun 15 minute project to build those but it is messy filling those up....whew, thats all that I know about chumming, but I'm always trying to add to it....I'm sure there are some localls who know some more... I'm leaving for my eight hour drive up to Tally in 2 hours and I'm pumped! Fish'n Friday and Saturday and hunting Cumberland island Monday-Wednesday....Life is good guys get out and get it!
