Trout are tightlipped fellas. Caught one keeper in two days of fishing. Live shrimp on bottom, under a popping cork, rattling redfin, mirrolure(topwater, sinking), chugbug, spook, heck we tried everything! Saw a friend of mine in the Aucilla yesterday catching short reds with shrimp on bottom. He fished all day and caught one trout....on a snatch hook. Mullet were thick though and we had a blast with that!
I'M AT THE GULF ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND. I HAVE A PLACE ON KEATON BEACH RD. (LONG WAY FROM WATER, 3 MILES TO LANDING) I MOSTLY FISH THERE DURING SUMMER. FIRST YEAR IN MANY, I'M WINTER FISHING MOSTLY ST. MARKS NOW.
Wish I were going with you. Have to play papa with my grandkids this weekend way up here in South GA. Might think about trying the 14 foot hole just past the TENECO dock. There is a small creek comes in right there. Weekend before last there were plenty of big fish hugging the bottom there. Couldn't get um to bite. The few reds we caught that day came from slowly dragging a electric chicken grub on the bottom tipped with shrimp and sprayed with Bang shrimp scent. Just below Stricklands Landing. Also caught some nice largemouth bass as residual catch.
Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try. Looks like the weather is easing up faster than thought, I'll let you know how it goes.
Enjoy the grandkid they grow up to fast and become teenagers.
