Shallow Water Grouper

No doubt the grouper are in shallow around St. Marks

Saturday it was a little rough so rather than run out past 24 I tried some close in numbers.

Caught a limit of keeper grouper and several shorts in from 16' to 22' of water Saturday and Sunday I was trout fishing and just made a quick circle out from the Rock Garden and caught 3 with 1 28" keeper.

I think I'm going to rig up a calcutta 400 with 50# braid and put it on a heavy bass rod and try trolling motoring up to some of those shallow spots and throw big bass crankbaits. Might loose some fish and break some rods but it will definitly be fun.

I bet you can catch them in 12' of water on the right spot. I've read about them doing it down around Homasassa and I bet we can do it right here.

I've never heard of anything so silly. You are just wasting your time. Everyone knows you have to go to 50' or deeper to get grouper. There are no grouper in shallow water. HAHAHA. This is the best laugh I've had in years!

Tom is absolutly correct YOU CAN NOT CATCH A GROUPER UNLESS YOU GO WAY ON OUT THERE We don't want to be giving folks false hope of an inshore Grouper bite, now do we

Someone may say liar liar pants on fire, but a reliable friend of mine called me to tell me he saw keeper grouper tailing like redfish between Sherad (sp) basin and the west pass at Suwannee after a winter storm about 5 years ago. He caught a couple and the school dispersed.
