Econfina camping / fishing 11-5-05

Post by catchin1 »

Me and some other dads that coached in The Brooks Co. Midget League football program needed a end of season break. 7 of us dads and 10 boys set up camp at the campground mid morning Sat. while we waited for the tide to turn so we could get out. 5 boat loads of us eased out the river(water real low) right after lunch. We all spread out between the mouth and Hickory Mound. Bite was slow till around 2:00. My boat was 2 dads and 2 sons, other dad and son were first timers. So they enjoyed wading thru the shorts getting to the keepers. We boated 7 keepers with 1 trout @ 22". Between 5 boats we had total of about 40 keepers. We came in around 5:30 cleaned fish set up the cookers and had fish, fries, and hush puppies, , and super good time. Dads and sons a like. Shoulda heard them boys talkin around the fire that nite, tellin they're fish stories, bragging bout what color grub worked the best  We all went out again Sun morn. and slow till lunch (I had to leave early) but most all of them that stayed limited out again yesterday afternoon. Mostly on CJ's and grubs.

BTW met a fellow forum member out there Sun. morning Hit-n-miss good to meet ya. Hope yall wound up with some fish.

Well I've been down there plenty so I know about bugs. When I was trying to clean fish right at dark they were mauling me, hands busy couldn't swat. After dark they leave.

The wife and I really enjoyed listening to those boys chattering
on the radio Saturday afternoon. Nothing like boys on a fishing trip!
Sure sounded like they were having a ball!

:-D
