YAK attack

Post by Apalach »

Alex,
Let me know when your yak attacks, and is finally in place--we will have to schedule another trip to celebrate the new arrival! Maybe the weather will be in a more cooperative mood by then. :-D
Best,
Dick

When we started our club we made it an organization. Believe it or not, but we are looking at insurance now. We think its going to run us 225 a year not counting events. When you have a big tournament count on charging an extra 10 a person for insurance. Lots of clubs have one lure tournaments and you can get a company to donate the lures and then let the winner of the tourney have them all. You can have a tournament where everyone uses a kiddy pole then donate all the kiddie poles to some group that will distribute them to children, like a boys club or something. We have a meeting the second Wednesday of each month and usually have a speaker that talks about different methods of fishing. We are fortunate to have members who have have been in the sport of kayak fishing since its infancy and some who write for different magazines. I look forward to hearing about your progress down there, and I'll get some fishing in with you guys when visiting the parents. As for a symbol, get a group together and call one Pres, Vice Pres, secretary and Treasurer. Then elect 3 chairmen. Come up with a name like Bigbend Kayak Fishing Association then when you add members have a contest to make your logo. Set up a booth and fishing show or when kayak stores have demo days work out a deal to show off your club. Good Luck.

I have spoken w/ a couple of presidents regarding starting this and it looks like an association is where its at. We will have to see if this thing even gets to that point. I only have the names of nine guys so far.

We started with less. We finally organized a meeting and invited people online and charged $15.00 for membership. Started a website, and it grew from there. Its amazing the amount of knowledge you will gain just by getting together with like minded individuals involved in an activity you enjoy.
