My Yamaha is one year owned by me coming up in a couple weeks. Would you guys take it in for maintenance? I haven't had it looked at since breaking it in at xhrs. Or should I just replace the spark plugs, and change the oil in the lower unit?
Take it in and have the 100 hour service done on it. The Waterpump, gearlube, sparkplugs and stuff all need to be changed. Also change the water seperator filter.
I equate it to when you have your oil changed, you change out the air filter as well. It is one of those things that could be fine for a while, but it is one part you don't want to have go bad on you, and they are fairly cheap insurance. We get ours changed every year.
If you ever replace your water pump yourself. Lube the new impellar with dish soap. This will protect it until water gets up to pump housing. It only takes second to damage a new, dry impellar.
