Econfina 4/1
Hunting season over, boat maintenance complete (knock on wood), new trailer and good weather. First trip of the year and all in all a good day. Put in at 9:30 and went west as I normally do. Found lots of boat clear water and not a lot of fish but enough for a good day. We picked up a couple of fish during the first two to three hours but both were good size, 19 and 19 1/2. The bite was very slow up until about 2 hours before high tide then it got better, not great but better. All the fish we caught were in the same 200 yard area. I would move around a little and would end of drifting back over the area. It didn't seem to matter what color we fished about the same results. Total for the day was 10 trout with 8 keepers. Good mess of fish that were good on the grill today. Water temp was between 70 and 73 all day and we stayed in water depths of 3 to 4 ft, nothing else seemed to work. Main baits were C/T candy corn and glow white with red tail salt water assassins. Great day on the water and can't wait for next week.

We just rolled in from trout fishing ourselves at Econfina. We fished until 3:00 Sat and for about 3 hrs on Sunday morning. We went this way out of the river <-> actually left. We found some really good drifts and caught tons of fish. I'd say around 125 total and about 30 were keepers. (Didn't keep that many ) only 1 over 20", most were 15-16, and shorter. The bite was on until about 45 minutes until tide changes. Water depth ( shallow ) moved in and out with the tide. Saturdays drift was blowing in and Sundays was from the west which seemed to keep us on the fish a little better. Overall a good trip. Our creek fish have mostly left. I heard some good ones were still in the mouths but I wanted to catch and not fish so we opted for the flats ! frank

Man I must not have been holding my mouth right.

Tough day Sunday! My son and I had great success
on Friday and Saturday with trout and reds. We
decided to run up to Grey Mare area on Sunday and
were just getting into great bite around 1 pm when
a foul hooked trout sunk a treble into my right thumb...
I couldn't push it thru with my left hand so had to
seek care...it was a long ride back in that rough water
for sure. We got to Capital Regional Medical Center
about midafternoon and at dark it took about 2 minutes
to get hook removed. Another hour for dismissal and
back to Econfina near midnight. Tough day but overall
a great weekend with son and friends in camp.
