That really is an excellent strategy in St Joe. Numbers are not really relevant unless you're leaving the bay. LY's, as they're commonly called, (or green backs, Pilchards or Scaled Sardines) are common and prime baits in St Joe. I find a quick place to get them is off the wall at the oil docks down town. It's close to the city pier so getting there and working out logistics isn't too tough. They are all over the bay but I find them easier to net quick at the docks. By the way, we assume you throw a cast net.
:roll: Define throw. :roll:

throw=bait in net
I'm not much good at it but I do, eventually, get bait in the net.

I forget the name of the place but its right before you get to the big curve on the cape on the left. Best food I've ever had. Get the she crab soup.
Loggerheads??

HnM,
When I was over there last weekend the LY's were everywhere and easy to spot.

That's easy. Ain't but one resturant before the stump hole and its now known as the Loggerhead Grill. These folks took over last spring and really changed the evening menu. They are Nawlens style cheifs.

The name is Logger Head Grill ,good food , but for 4 folks to eat it will cost around 150.00 and the wine list is lacking.
Now for the fishing its like fishing anywhere else except the bay is forgiving just please watch your way and not drag your motor into the grass .
nothing is free except cheese and its in a mouse trap

It takes up to 10 years for prop scars to fill back in, IF they ever do.

Thats prop scars I've been seeing on the flats. :o
I thought that was where trout had beaten out trails... like cows in a pasture. I always follow them to find the trout.

We'll be down there the weekend before the 4th also. Crooked Island is a good place to take the family if you've got a boat. We load up a grill and cook on the beach. You can fish that area and swim and find Sand Dollars.

Hit-n-Miss wrote::-D What's a good spot to catch a mess of whiting, shore or from a boat? :-D
In the surf, right in front of the Driftwood. Get out there early, before the crowd. You ought to catch more than you want to clean. Also, fish a good size piece of cut bait or a live pin fish on , or just over the sandbar, for blue fish and small sharks. If you don't like to eat blues, throw it up on the bank. Yankees love them. :wink:

Ya don't say, right at the hotel? :thumbup: Sounds good, I actually like blues but I'm no yankee. :-D Just got to bleed them and ice them immiediately. And cut out the red meat before cooking. :lick: Have you stayed there at Driftwood? Did you like it? :-D
