Tube Baits

I read the article in FS about using them for trout and redfish. Any of yall ever use them? I never had much luck with them for bass, maybe because I don't have any black ones.

With the selection of plastic baits available it is hard to figure what you really need and what is just redundant.

It's one of those articles designed to open a new market of soft plastics for reds. Chances are you could have caught the same reds on any number of soft plastics with the same amount of success. I have caught reds on spinnerbaits, maybe I should start a saltwater spinnerbait company?

I don't doubt you are right, Tom. It did occur to me though that the hollow tube body would be a good place to put a strip of fishbites. Between the fringe on the tube and the fishbites, I'll bet the Pinfish would go into a frenzy.

I recently had a conversation with an old tournement pro who revealed a trick I was unaware of regarding tubes. The old salt told me of the success he had with tubes when he would pack to tube with a seltzer powder of some variety. I'm wondering if the same technique would work on trout? I guess it's worth a shot...

i think the seltzer trick is used on bedding bass as a way to tick them off and make them move it off the bed.
