Motor Puked
Started acting up at Mexico Beach a few weeks ago when the family and I were there on vacation. Thought I had water in the gas, trash in a carb, etc....sumthin of that nature. It would skip a little then it would run out fine. Seemed to be worse at higher rpm's so I took it easy on it that week. Would have to choke the hell out of it(even when hot) to crank it. Anyhow, did the fishing trip to Econfina out of it last Saturday and experienced the same problems. Progressively got worse throughout the day. On the way in I got the "hot" buzzer at the no-wake zone. I took it to a mechanic yesterday, put it off as long as I could to try and prepare myself for the damage report. Met with him a few minutes ago. Got a broken ring on bottom right (if you're standing behind motor) piston, cylinder is o.k. Head gasket on that side is blown. On the left side bottom, the needle bearing came apart and really did a number on the piston and cylinder wall. That's all I know at this point. Only the heads are off of it. He's gonna split the motor over the weekend, see if there's anything else. Dang I hope not. We're at $1500.00 now with parts and labor. That's replacing rings and bearings on ALL 4 cylinders, shaving heads, new gaskets, o-rings, honing bad cylinder, replacing piston in said cylinder. The "trout fisher" is down, but it's not out!

Looking at getting a new block. Will have new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, yada, yada, yada..... They'll just unbolt mine, pull it out, and drop the new one in Will have same powerpacks, carbs, and all, but new internal parts and block. Can have that done for around $3000.00 with a 15 month warranty. Fixing the damage on the other block is gonna be around $1600.00 with a 90 day warranty. What would ya'll do???
