Stone Crabs

Post by RC »

St. Marks has a large commercial stone crab fishery. Must be a lot of them out there but I really haven't seen many diving. Of course I really haven't targeted the kinds of spots the stone crabbers set their traps. Any of you tried getting them diving?

Ain't talking about messing with no traps.

Don't want no trouble with those guys.

I'm talking about finding my own.

I know, I was just teasing. I think the stone crabs are pretty nocturnal. I've seen one or two while diving years ago, but not a lot.

See them sometimes, right now they are out of season i believe. Look in holes on sandy bottom or under coral. You see more when there are no fish to shoot and you can look for other things.

Opens oct. 16.

Looks like all this rain has screwed up the shallow water vis.

Maybe later in the winter.
