Crappie Day Fishing 12-16-2006
I went fishing with my Paw and we caught 25 nice crappie. Not as big as we normally catch, but when it cools down a little more hopefully it will pick up. We threw back some smaller ones too.

I put the hat in to give them perspective, otherwise its hard to tell how big they are. Only one was real big though.
If you want details well, we were fishing in a 8ft long john boat with a 40 lb thrust trolling motor and two bird dogs swimming in the water around us. I was using a Stradic 1000 reel with 4 lb test Trilene line and a 1/8 jighead with bass assassin 2 inch curly tails in white. Dad was using the same thing but with a Berkley Lightning rod, and a Zebco Z03 reel. We fished the middle area in 8 to 12 feet of water and let the jig go dwon for a count of three before we reeled it in. We had the most action in areas where they were feeding on minnows. The temperature outside was 74 deg F and the water was around 60 deg F. The water was med visability. We also picked up two largemouth bass that were 1 to 2 lbs. We were fishing at around 3:00 pm to 4:15pm I had just returned from Macon, GA where I stopped at the Basss Pro Shop. There I got to see a replica of the world record bass. I noticed that the bass I caught in June was the same length (32.5 inches) as the world record bass but the girth (28 inches )was about 5 inches less. I also noticed that if you ran those measurements through the calculator on this website that the world record bass would have weighed 31 lbs. Oh well better luck next time.

Crappie Fishing (or should I say Crappy fishing)
Well I didn't have the same luck you did at Talquin. I fished the Iron Curtain and the many holes I know of there and up the mouth of the river and I didn't get a single bite. I fished Friday morning with jigs and shiners. There were about 4-6 other boats in the area and I didnt see anyone catching at all.
